"Lambarde Perambulation of Kent" William Lambard, 1596
Conteining the Description, Hystorie, and Customes of that Shyre. Written in the yeere 1570 by William Lambarde of Lincolnes Inne Gent: First Published in the Yeere 1576. And Now Increased and Altered After the Author's Owne Last Copie.

 

The second edition of this work, which was first issued in 1576. However, this is the first edition to have the maps and is regarded to be the best edition. This edition is the only edition to have the folding beacon map which shows the system of early warning to danger to England.

Size: 7.5" by 5.5" / Pages: [10], 588pp, [6], 1 folding map

Condition notes: Full leather binding, sometime rebacked, with gilt title to spine. Front pastedown with two bookplates, ffep with one bookplate, and first blank with one bookplate. Title within decorative border, ink note to top margin and ink name to middle of title. Full page engraved map of England facing p.1, and folding map of the Kent Beacons facing p.70 (perhaps added from another copy). Age toning, damp staining and the odd mark here and there, otherwise pages are generally clean as shown. Rear pastedown with pencil notes.
