Green Faience Egyptian Ushabti (Pharaonic BC)

Green Faience is a ceramic material widely used in ancient Egypt, known for its vibrant green or blue-green glaze. Crafted from crushed quartz or sand, it symbolizes fertility, rebirth, and the life-giving properties of the Nile River. This material was often used to create artifacts like the Egyptian Ushabti. Egyptian ushabti statues were often placed in tombs, such statues were believed to act as servants in the afterlife, performing tasks for the individual in the realm of the dead.

Initially conceived during the Middle Kingdom (2040-1782 BC), ushabtis evolved over centuries into detailed and personalized representations of servants. Their use continued into the Late Period (664-332 BC) and began to decline with the conquest of Egypt by Alexander the Great.
