"Tracts and Treatises of John de Wycliffe, D.D. Selections and Translations from his Manuscripts and Latin Works, with an Introductory Memoir, by The Rev. Robert Vaughan, D.D." 1845
John Wycliffe (c. 1320–1384) was an English theologian, philosopher, and Oxford scholar often called the “Morning Star of the Reformation.” A leading intellectual of his age, he challenged the wealth and authority of the medieval Church and insisted that the Bible, rather than church leaders, should be the ultimate standard of faith. He also championed Scripture in the language of ordinary people, a radical stance in his time. This 1845 volume gathers his key tracts and treatises, preserving the arguments through which he criticized church abuses, defended biblical authority, and called for reform. As a collection of Wycliffe’s own writings, it offers direct access to the ideas that helped lay important groundwork for the later Protestant Reformation.
At Book Archaeology, we value works that preserve pivotal moments in history. This volume offers a thoughtful entry point into the origins of religious reform and Wycliffe’s lasting influence.
