Throughout the nineteenth century, magic lantern presentations of classical history and sacred texts were major cultural events, serving as vital tools for visual storytelling before the dawn of modern cinema. This exceptional mahogany-framed mechanical slide illustrates the deeply moving scene of The Finding of Moses in the Bulrushes. This features the unmistakable crescent-shaped cutout on the left side that identifies it as part of a "slip" mechanical panorama frame, designed to hold an additional sliding piece of glass. The circular glass window features a beautifully executed biblical illustration of The Finding of Moses in the Bulrushes (Exodus 2:5). Pharaoh's daughter stands gracefully in royal Egyptian robes alongside an attendant, while a handmaid kneels among the Nile reeds to rescue the infant Moses from his floating basket. A small golden sphinx statue rests on the riverbank in the background. The artwork demonstrates incredibly rich hand-colored tinting, housed in a rare, crescent-notched mechanical slip carrier, this slide is covered in with physical provenance—including an original purple manufacturer stamp, a vintage hand-marked exhibition number "5," and an intact printed paper title label on the panel edge ("The Finding"). It is an elite piece of early visual media that brings the historic tradition of storytelling into the modern curated home.

By 1895, over 30,000 lantern showmen crisscrossed America, delivering 75,000 performances each year and igniting imaginations in communities already buzzing with the marvels of the age.
